The independent studio 22cans has revealed the release date for Masters of Albion, the ambitious new project from veteran designer Peter Molyneux. The game is scheduled to launch on April 22 at 20:00 Moscow time.
Masters of Albion is described as a broad fusion of genres. During the daytime players are expected to manage and develop their own settlement, while nights will bring assaults from monstrous foes that must be repelled. The game’s perspective is primarily top-down, but at any moment players can switch to directly control any available character, undertake various roleplaying quests and advance the overarching narrative.
According to the studio’s lore, magic will return to a world long dominated by technology, and the protagonist will be cast as a chosen figure tasked with defending Albion. In line with Molyneux’s long-standing design themes, the player is given tools intended to evoke a godlike sense of influence over the game world.
Peter Molyneux, the founder of Lionhead Studios, previously said that Masters of Albion will be his final game. He has expressed hope that this title can help restore his reputation, making the release a particularly personal milestone for the designer and his team.
