Assassin’s Creed Shadows turns one: players logged 334,384,499 hours, performed over 4 billion kills and tens of millions of leaps of faith

Ubisoft marked the first anniversary of Assassin’s Creed Shadows by releasing aggregated player statistics that summarize activity in the game since its launch.

According to the figures shared by the publisher, players have spent a combined 334,384,499 hours in Assassin’s Creed Shadows over the past year — roughly 14 million days or about 38,000 years in total. During that time users carried out 4,007,363,535 kills and completed 58,233,600 leaps of faith.

Other highlights from the year include 159,623,873 visits to shrines and 26,001,748 instances of players petting the game’s ‘adorable cats.’ The report also notes that deaths most frequently occurred during combat encounters, though no further breakdown was provided.

Ubisoft thanked the community for its role in the game’s first year, noting that from countless hours played to millions of leaps of faith, kills, shrine visits and cat strokes, the journey was shaped by the players themselves — and expressed gratitude for those who have ‘walked in the shadows’ alongside the studio.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set in an open-world depiction of feudal Japan circa 1579. The narrative centers on two protagonists: Naoe, a nimble and stealthy shinobi, and Yasuke, the legendary Black samurai.

The game debuted on 20 March 2025 across multiple platforms: PC (via major storefronts), Mac (App Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It later arrived on Nintendo’s Switch 2 on 2 December. By the summer following release, the title’s audience had already surpassed 5 million players.

In the year since launch the game received several content updates and a story expansion titled Claws of Awaji. Ubisoft now says it is entering a ‘final phase of support’ for the title, indicating that future patches will be smaller in scope and released less frequently.

The statistics provide a snapshot of how players engaged with Assassin’s Creed Shadows during its first year and underline the scale of activity the game generated across its community.
