Anatoly Averkov, known in the scene as clife and serving as an analyst for Team Spirit's CS2 roster, has shared his assessment of a recent change to the game's reloading mechanics. He posted his thoughts on his personal Telegram channel, commenting on how the alteration might influence both competitive play and viewer experience.
Averkov does not expect the update to have a dramatic effect on the professional scene. In his view, it is quite rare for a player to expend an entire magazine within a single round, so the tactical consequences for top-level matches should be limited. However, he warned that the change will reduce some of the game's more visually spectacular moments.
Specifically, Averkov argued that the update will decrease the number of astonishing wallbangs and shots that pass through textures or sleeves inside smokes—plays that tend to excite the audience. He emphasized that games benefit from elements that are entertaining and that, in certain respects, it is unnecessary to make the gameplay too closely mirror real-life weapon handling.
The update in question was released on the night of March 19. Valve implemented a notable modification to reloading: any bullets remaining in a magazine are now removed when a player reloads. The stated intention from the developers is to encourage players to be more deliberate about when they choose to change magazines during a round.
In sum, Averkov predicts a modest competitive impact but a measurable loss of spectacle for viewers, as some of the improbable and attention-grabbing plays will become less common. His remarks were shared verbatim on his channel, reflecting his direct reaction to the developers' direction for CS2's reload mechanics.
