Peacock is working on a television series titled Bride Wars, according to a report from Variety. The project is described as a fresh, loose reimagining of the feature film of the same name.

The original Bride Wars film, which starred Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, revolved around two close friends whose rivalry erupts on the eve of their weddings. The new show takes that central conflict as a point of departure but approaches it with a different premise and tone.

Emma Roberts has been cast in the lead role. In the series she will portray a wedding planner who leaves a major metropolitan area and relocates to a small town. Once there, she becomes embroiled in a rivalry with the town’s own wedding celebrity as they compete for the opportunity to stage a prominent ceremony.

The film Bride Wars premiered in 2009. Audiences gave the movie mixed ratings: it holds a 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb and a 6.9 out of 10 on Kinopoisk. Peacock’s series revisits that premise for television while reworking its characters and setting for a new adaptation.
