Netflix is developing a reboot of the romantic comedy 13 Going on 30, the streaming service announced on its social channels. The project returns to a familiar premise while attaching several recognizable names from both the original film and contemporary casts.
Jennifer Garner, the star of the 2004 original, will serve as an executive producer on the new version. The lead roles are set to be played by Emily Bader, known for her work in Vacation Friends and My Lady Jane, and Logan Lerman, whose credits include The Perks of Being a Wallflower and the Percy Jackson films. Brett Haley, whose recent directing credits include Vacation Friends and the adaptation of Looking for Alaska, has been tapped to direct the reboot.
The original 13 Going on 30 followed an awkward, shy teenage girl who desperately wants to grow up. One night her wish comes true: she wakes up transported into the future as her own thirty-year-old self, now a successful editor at a fashion magazine. That 2004 film earned moderate audience scores, with a 6.3/10 rating on IMDb and a 6.9/10 on a popular Russian film site.
With Garner attached as an executive producer, the reboot aims to link the charm of the original with a contemporary cast and creative team. Further production details, a release window and a full supporting cast have not yet been disclosed.
