Lionsgate and Universal Pictures have announced a new biographical drama titled "Michael," which will portray the life and creative career of Michael Jackson. The studios provided production details and confirmed a release window for the film.
The picture will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, known for his work on Training Day and Shooter. The screenplay was written by John Logan, whose credits include Gladiator and The Last Samurai. Production is being handled by Graham King, producer of The Departed and Bohemian Rhapsody, together with representatives of the Michael Jackson Estate, the organization that manages the artist's posthumous rights. The lead role of Michael Jackson will be played by Jaafar Jackson, the singer's nephew. The film is scheduled to premiere on April 24, 2026.
Michael Jackson remains one of the most influential and commercially successful musical performers in history, widely referred to by the press as the "King of Pop." Over the course of his career he won 15 Grammy Awards and sold in excess of one billion records worldwide. Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.
