FACEIT to change Elo system for CS2
FACEIT moves CS2 ranking to a cyclical Elo model for Season 8 — calibration, soft reset and stricter treatment for inactive players

FACEIT is changing how it accounts for Elo among CS2 players. The platform's management intends to increase competition at the highest ranks by narrowing the gap between the top of the leaderboard and other players who hold level 10 on the platform, while also bringing other users' ratings up to date. The information was announced via the platform's social channels.

With the launch of FACEIT Season 8 the ranking system will switch to a cyclical model. The primary aim of the change is to eliminate Elo "inflation" at level 10 and to refresh rankings for players who have been inactive for a long time.

Calibration will require ten matches: from April 22 your visible Elo will be hidden. To reveal your new rank under the updated system you will need to play ten matches.

FACEIT describes the process as a soft reset rather than a full wipe. The system will recalculate each player’s rating based on their current Elo and their activity during Season 7.

For players at levels 1–9 the recalibrated rank should remain as close as possible to the existing rank if they have been active. Level 10 is the main focus: the reset will be the most noticeable there in order to compress the top of the ladder and restore genuine competition among the best players.

Players who were largely inactive in Season 7 will receive a stricter recalculation of their rating. FACEIT emphasizes that this measure is meant to ensure the leaderboard reflects recent performance and activity.

The official start of the new season and the switch to the cyclical model is April 22.

Earlier, FACEIT published regional ladder statistics. In Europe, among the top 1,000 players on the platform, Russia accounted for the largest single representation, with 314 players included in that group.
