BLAST sticks with original CS2 patch through Rotterdam
BLAST Open Rotterdam will remain on the same Counter-Strike 2 patch used for opening day despite Valve's reload overhaul

BLAST Open Rotterdam will continue operating on the same game patch that was used during the tournament's opening day, tournament organizers have confirmed. They will not adopt the recent update to Counter-Strike 2 partway through the event.

Valve released an update that significantly altered reload mechanics in Counter-Strike 2: when a player reloads, any unused ammunition remaining in the current magazine is now discarded. That change was introduced in an evening update and represents a fundamental shift in how ammo and reloading interact in the game.

The new reload behavior increases the tactical weight of a reload decision. Players must now weigh the cost of discarding partially used magazines, and teams may adapt their play styles to account for differing spare-magazine counts across weapons. In short, reloading is no longer a routine action but a choice with clearer strategic consequences.

To preserve competitive consistency, BLAST decided not to change the tournament's patch mid-event. That stance applies throughout the group stages and into the playoff rounds, which are scheduled to take place from March 27 to March 29.

As a result, viewers and competitors will not see the revised reload system at BLAST Open Rotterdam. The earliest top-tier LAN where the new mechanics will be deployed is PGL Bucharest, which is set to begin on April 4.

Organizers explained that maintaining the same patch avoids introducing a substantial gameplay variable during the tournament and gives teams a stable environment for the remainder of the event. This approach prioritizes competitive integrity over immediate adoption of the update.
